If your child is serious about the sport of baseball, you may want to think about getting them their own bat. While most youth baseball teams and batting cages supply baseball bats for teenagers, you may want your child to have their own baseball bat or softball bat so that they can practice at home. Getting your child their own baseball bat is a great way to help them get excited about the game and take responsibility for honing their skills.
Follow the new USA Baseball Bat Standard.
The new USA Baseball Bat Standard will take effect on January 1, 2018. If your child plays in a team that follows the USA Baseball Bat Standard, you’ll need to make sure their new bat has the new USA Baseball stamp.
You’ll need to be careful when choosing a baseball bat for a child age 14 or younger. After December 31, 2017, baseball bats marked with the 1.15BPF stamp will no longer be legal for Little League games and activities. Other youth baseball organizations that follow the USA Baseball Standard include Babe Ruth & Cal Ripken, PONY, Dixie, and AABC.
Ask your child’s baseball coach.
If you are new to youth baseball, we recommend asking your child’s coach what types of youth baseball bats they recommend. Light baseball bats offer more control and speed while a heavy baseball bat gives more power behind your child’s swing. Have your child try out different types of baseball bats until they find one that complements their personal preferences and playing style.
Your child’s baseball coach will also be able to tell you how to choose the right size baseball bat for your child. Keep in mind that as your child grows, you may need to replace their baseball bat with something more appropriate for their size. Your child should choose a baseball bat that feels comfortable.
Measure your child’s height.
Make sure you measure your child’s height while they are wearing their baseball cleats. If your child is between 3’ and 3’4”, you’ll want to choose a 26-inch bat. For every 4 to 5 inches your child grows, increase the bat size by 1 inch.
Weigh your child.
Your child’s Little League will use a bat size chart that compares both height and weight. If your child weighs less than 60 pounds, you’ll want to pick out a bat that is between 26 and 29 inches long. For children weighing more than 70 pounds, the length of the baseball bat should be between 28 and 32 inches.
Compare your child’s size to the bat.
Your youth baseball bats should reach (but not go past) their hip when you stand it next to them. Keep in mind that your child will have a hard time trying to swing a baseball bat that is too long for them.

The Helmet we purchased is lighter and more comfortable than the Ion 4d he used for last two seasons and it looks awesome. He is a senior defensive end and hits hard. With this helmet he says he doesn't feel the hits like he did before. I couldn't be more impressed with Safety First Sports with the customer service and super fast shipping.
